If you still have the resistor in the circuit, you will need the wire for a bypass.

I have seen/read-about "ballast wires" between the ignition switch to the coil;
and, I have seen ballasts resistors in the lead from ignition to the coil;
and, I have seen "ballasted" coils (VW, I think)?
