With regards to resurfacing the rocker arm at the valve interface, does anyone know how the rocker arm tips are heat treated?

Just wondering if they are heat treated through, or just surface hardened - in which case a concern would be breaking thru the hardened surface, exposing the softer interior.

The reason I am asking is that I have some GMC 270 rocker arms that show some pitting. I had thought about trying to resurface them, however the service information says to replace them if they are worn, which leads me to believe that they may be only surface heat treated.

These appear to be cast or possibly forged. It this the same type that you are talking about?

Just curious...

Best Regards....
