The method of determining the ratio by jacking up the rear end and counting driveshaft revolutions would only be accurate if both rear wheels were rotating simultaneously in the same direction, difficult to do. Just jack up one wheel, with front wheels blocked, and count drive shaft revolutions per two revolutions of the wheel to get the ratio. The reason two revolutions of the wheel are necessary is a function of the differential.
