Your latest photos appear to show spacers, not adapters. An adapter usually has its own set of studs, and is used to change the bolt circle, or make some other type of change from the original wheel lug pattern. Simply changing the track width slightly with spacers is much safer, as long as the lug nuts go on deep enough to have adequate thread engagement. Grigg was probably thinking the adapters you mentioned had studs independent of the adapter attachment nuts.
