I just replaced my Rochester for a Carter, and todays short test drive went well, but I have a couple of questions. One; on the base of the Rochester there is one hole that has to line up with the opening in the proper gasket, but in the Carter there are two. If I use the gasket that came with the Carter, one hole is exposed; if I use the gasket from the Rochester (which is still good), the other hole is exposed. So which gasket should I use? For todays run, I went ahead and used the gasket for the Rochester and had no problems.
The other question is about the choke/throttle hold down clamps; the Carter did not come with the clamp (the one that screws down with one of the top bolts on the back of the carb), so I did a little bit of modification and was able to hook up the choke with the clamp from my Rochester (the cable clamp off the Rochester is dual duty, it clamps both the choke and the throttle cables). The problem is that due to the hold down screw on the Carter being closer to the air inlet, it is no longer lined up at all with the point where the throttle wire runs through the hole where the foot feeder throttle attaches to the arm on the carb ( when you step on the gas peddle, it cannot slide up the throttle wire due to the angle). My question here is does anyone know how the throttle cable attaches to the Carter carburetor? I have not taken any pictures yet, but I should have time tomorrow to take some and post.
To be clear, I have a 1956 235 with the original Rochester now changed to a Carter 2100S.
Thank you,
Lee
