Alright, I need a new car. After looking around for some time now, I've decided that anything worth investing in has WAY too many miles and therefore, would be unreliable (in my eyes since I don't know the history and quirks).

Got another bright idea to buy an old truck for cheap and drop in some new components (that's why I'm in here rather than the Lounge - don't want to hear about it). If I can get a cheap shell and a crate motor and some of the components, I figure I can be on the road with a reliable vehicle for around $4 or $5 thou...

As for the crate motor, I'm thinking 350 (as they are quite cheap - $1300 from GM Goodwrench with warranty) but wouldn't rule out a 4.3l vortec V6 due to gas milage.

Any ideas? What are the best sources for a crate? Where do you guys see pitfalls in this plan? What am I missing?
