I did some searching after I wrote my post. There were some other forums where most everyone said what you said. What you want under any decent paint job, doesn't come in a can.
I have a nice compressor and I'm sure I can buy a sprayer, but it is just an area of the hobby I have no experience with. I assume you also need a very good respirator just to open the cans of paint.
My reason for looking is I only have a couple of spots that I will sand down to metal, probably less than five or six square feet of sheetmetal on the entire cab.
I suppose my inherent need for tools will probably push me into buying the right stuff, but it will slow me down long enough that I will proabably wait until spring and do other projects first.
