Officer you hit the nail on the head, cost and also availability! Rustolium $7.47 a quart vs $70.00 a quart for PPG paints. Now I'm gonna be a wise a$$ and a little sarcastic but that might not make any difference to you guys that are still working but to an old retiree like me, it do! You mean to say your putting that seventy-dollar a quart paint on your farm equipment?? Anyway, I taint about to use an expensive finish on a foot scraper.
Now don't ya go short changing Rustolium enamel. This debate has been discussed many many times here on the forum. For a running board, frame, axle, brake, steering and under hood components it's an excellent choice. Now if your hot rodding your bolt and want that show stopping finish everywhere on your trailer queen then I would have to agree with your choice of expensive automotive finishes.

Harold, what is the curing process for the Acrylic enamels? I’m gonna play with mixing some 2612 with some mineral spirits and see what the reaction is and then mix some with straight paint with no thinners and put it out to dry. I need to do a few controlled studies to get some concrete answers other wise it’s all guesswork. Oh, and by the way, paints been down for about 12 hours now and it’s all set up to the point where I can handle it so it is curing like it's supposed to.

Hi Lonnie, if I were going to keep the truck outside I would probably have used an undercoat also. But ya see, I'm puttin' the old gal out to pasture and the only time she's gonna see any inclement weather is if I get stuck out in a sudden shower on the way back from a swap meet. We’re gonna hibernate in the fall till the ice is out!
