The strongest weld would be a lap using this tool from harbor freight for $50.00. But also they make a panel glue that one of the BB member put a test to that worked wonders. You can also put some metal behind the joint for added strengh if you won't see the part.

They make these butt weld clamps by eastwood, but you can get 6-10 for $6.00 at harbour freight store vs. eastwood.
