I bought a pinion seal when I swapped gears. After running the new gears the pinion wasn’t leaking, so I haven’t replaced it.
The pinion nut is a special one, unusual thread I think. Mine is rusty, so without a spare nut on hand I haven’t been excited about pinion seal replacement either.
If yours doesn’t leak might also want to leave well enough alone.
