It's an interesting way to get less efficient oil filtering. The media in a full flow filter has such a loose weave that it lets a lot of stuff flow through that the original filter would trap. Now, if you could adapt a spin-on Diesel fuel filter to an original-equipment housing like that, you'd be able to combine the advantages of a spin-on filter and the fine-particle filtering usually associated with a bypass filter.
