1949 Chevrolet 3100 pickup with stock 4:11 rear end. Thinking about changing rear end to 3:55 for highway driving. Kits are available to do this for about $1,000 using existing rear axle and drive shaft. However, would it be better just to get a used rear end from a salvage yard that meets the needed spec and just bolt it up to the drive shaft. If this is possible what are some rear ends that would work? Thanks
