What type tire (radial, bias ply) and what size tire?
What psi? too high and you "wander"; too low and the steering is hard

Have you ever set/checked the "pre-load" on the steering box?

You can use a light-weight fish scale from Wal-Mart/etc for the "J-544 Steering Gear Checking Scale)

Playing with the air pressure and adjusting the steering gear pre-load made a big difference in my steering on an earlier truck.
