I agree with Evan and Carl, it's the simplicity of the whole 12 Volt system and not having to worry about it going forward.
I did some work on a 41 Willys MB a couple of years ago. The family had owned it for 30 years and took it with them for camping & hunting trips. The current owner said they had starting and charging issues with it as long as he could remember. He said his dad parked it on a hill everywhere they went so they could be sure to get it started. I did a 12 volt conversion with a 10SI alternator along with a major tune up, brake work, and some other maintenance work and it has been going strong since.
