You can see in this photo before the option of the column shift 1947- early 48 truck period there is no hump. There is a different bracket assembly as well. The column support nuts are square and fit in a recess to provide clearance (tight).

Brackets showing correct nuts/washers. Often if the original, un-modified bolts are in place and you loosen them without liberal let-go being used, they turn or snap. If they turn, they often damage the column support under the dash. This area collects a lot of dirt and moisture over the years. On the end of the bracket you can see, adjustment and tabs which get damaged.
