Lots of work on Brad's part ... pure enjoyment (and references) for you!
| | THANKS!
For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2013 Posts: 224 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2013 Posts: 224 | Began workig on the box and fenders of my ‘47 3100 AD. It’s amazing how well bondo hides crime! ;-) I never realized there are 2 rivets on the back fender brace until I removed the bondo. Lots of painstaking patch welding and hours of metal finishing to boring the fender into shape. Bought a bullseye dent remover and a shrink disk to help. Have to be careful when using each so you don’t stretch or shrink too much. The shrink disk also is quite dangerous so care is important. The box sides are warped and oil canned due to welding repair patches to the bolt hole areas. The warping was covered with...you guessed it...BONDO! Again two tools have helped straighten things. I still may have to use a “skim” coat though to make it smooth again.....
My question is replacing the front panel. If s it simply a matter of unbolting 10 nuts and bolts? The PO welded a panel to the front panel to the front crossmember.......originally were the front panel and front crossmember attached?
You can never predict what you will face when you start a project! Any advice would be appreciated. | | |
