When it's time to drive the balancer back on (if you choose not to thread the crank snout so you can use a press tool) it's a good idea to take the load off the thrust flange on the #3 main bearing by wedging a piece of wood between the flywheel and the bellhousing, or maybe wedging between the crank and the engine block inside the crankcase. That's how Chevy did it on the assembly line when they made the engine. A threaded crank and a jackscrew style balancer installer is a better way to go, however.
