Another option is to use a heavy slide hammer bolted solidly to the balancer to remove it. You can minimize the possibility of damage to the thrust faces of the main bearing if you wedge a block of wood between the flywheel and the bellhousing in whichever direction you're moving the balancer to keep the load off the flange bearing.
