The way I did it was to weld a strip of metal into the valley left once you remove the hood strip. I would recommend that you do this while the hood is mounted/bolted to the truck and also to just use welds about a quarter inch long staggered along the sides. You will then need to spread some body filler over it and you are done.
Too much welding will warp the panel.
