Here is a photo of the front bumper guard literature I have. Note the reference to the existing bumper bolts and the new mounting holes for the front bumper guards.
Front Bumper Guard Installation Sheet Front Bumper Guard Installation Template I like the front bumper guards mounted with the bumper bolts from an aesthetics standpoint, as well as having the front bumper guards directly in line with the frame rails for impact. That being said, maybe it is prudent to have the front bumper guards outside of the frame rails, in order to absorb a bit of the energy, in the event of low impact contact with an obstruction.
Also, if the front bumper guards cover the G and the C on the GMC trucks, it is better to move them out from the factory bumper bolt locations, to avoid covering the letters.
It seems there are upsides to both methods of installing the front bumper guards and it is up to each owner's personal taste, whereas they were done both ways.
