So it's been about 4 or 5 years since I've even kind of worked on the frame of this truck, I've maybe touched the motor a couple times and I've asked questions for my dad who was really doing the work on the engine. Recently my cousin had me finish his garage so that we could move the frame of my '53 Chevy, 3/4 ton, into it. I'm more of a carpenter and he's a diesel mechanic so we're both excited about doing this. We now have the frame on jack stands which has been completely powder-coated, we have both front springs on, and 1 rear spring (the pins on the rear did NOT want to go in easily, but he's a mechanic so he had the tools to get it together). This may not sound like much but I took the springs in and had new bushings put in, I had kingpins pressed on, I had the pumpkin completely rebuilt for the rear end with 4:10's at the local Inland Truck Shop, and I've painted both axles. All in all, I'm incredibly pleased that I'm starting to work on my truck again. I've already got a ton of questions in my head about running brake lines and a brake booster kit and if it's possible to get disc brakes for a 3/4 ton on the front anymore and things like that. Some of them I already know the answers to (or suspect I do) but I'm hoping maybe someone will have some more insight. I'm going to be asking questions soon, right now the thing I'm most curious about is if anyone has ever found an option for putting disc brakes on the front of a three-quarter ton '53 Chevy? I know that they used to make a kit that went right on, and then they stopped doing it. As far as I remember from 5 years ago, no one had found a solution. Is there anything easy other than using an entirely different front axle? I really want to use the axle that came with the truck, and if they don't make a kit like they do for the half tons then I'm just going to settle on using the hub brakes as they are. Although that's my reasoning for putting a brake booster on. Any ideas? Hopefully I'll be having lots of fun working on this truck in a newly finished garage for the next year or so, and with my cousin who's a chevy fan. Looking forward to reading more up on this stuff and getting back into it. This truck has been hanging on the wall in my garage and in pieces in my attic for so long I don't even remember how it came part.
