The Saginaw is supposed to be a little stronger than the non-synchro Muncie, so I've heard. I know it weighs considerably more! The same basic gearbox was used as a 4 speed with the reverse section moved into the tailshaft housing to create the Saginaw 4 speed used in mid-1970's cars like the Vega, etc.
