If you remove the fuel pump you might have to put in a new fuel pump gasket.
So you're better off not removing the fuel pump.
Just make sure you don't cross the threads when screwing on the metal fuel line.
When you start to thread on the pipe fitting nut into the fuel pump port, and it starts turning hard, that will tell you the threads are crossed.
The pipe fitting nut should turn fairly easy until it bottoms out.
You may have to bend the pipe slightly to get the pipe fitting nut threads to line up with the fuel pump port threads.
