Repeat, you don't need a class and don't sweat it. For several of us it seemed like the right way to start and was near our home. Without a class you can call it a stick, you don't have to say electrode or GMAW or GTAW or SMAW. Buy and play and see how good you are naturally. Read the manual/internet and watch some Youtubes.
