As I understand, the price does not include assembly, which is fine with me. And yes, I am having the crank drilled and tapped for a bolt. I had looked at parts prices earlier, and figured the parts alone would run about $1300, so the machine work and cleaning would be about #2000. I'm still unsure about solid/hydraulic lifters, which I assume will require a different cam, which might change the price.
By the way, about 10 years ago I did a similar rebuild on a Jeep 4.0 six, and the price was about $1000 less. I guess that's inflation. And a much more recent engine (1986 vs 1960).

I am currently digging back in to a 1953 3800 (one ton) with a nine foot bed. I've owned it since 1979, and drove it until 1982 (or so). My wife got me involved in restoring it back in 2002, got the body removed and the frame redone, then things came up. Now I am retired and starting again.
