They are talking about a new cam, not reusing the old one. So I have the option of getting a new cam for solid lifters, or a new cam for hydraulic lifters.
I disassembled the engine myself, and then took the pieces to them. I have never worked with this machine shop before, I think they are part of some national chain. They are Precision Machine Inc, PMI, and I am dealing with the Jefferson City Missouri store. I was a bit upset that it took them five weeks to tell me what needed to be done, and I wouldn't know now except that I called them today to see what was going on. I feel like I am stuck with them, which I don't mind if the price is semi reasonable. I need to talk to them some more, something they said on the phone made me think that they might be doing some assembly. Of course, it is the holiday weekend, so nothing will happen until Tuesday.

I am currently digging back in to a 1953 3800 (one ton) with a nine foot bed. I've owned it since 1979, and drove it until 1982 (or so). My wife got me involved in restoring it back in 2002, got the body removed and the frame redone, then things came up. Now I am retired and starting again.
