Since the 292 spans a long life, tune up spec's probably changed over the years. Actual parts most likely stayed the same. In the late 70's they swapped over to HEI ignition, and probably to a later ignition before the last of them in the 90's. Early on, the 230-250-292 all used the same head so date codes are hard to pin down. They used the same block for years, so again dates are hard to pin down. At some point, they switched heads to one with the intake cast into the head. These tended to crack, so swap to an older style if that is the case.
I would probably start with '71 or '72 spec's, thats right before the unleaded changes and heavy smog equipment was installed. Since modern fuel is quit different from when the engine was designed, factory spec's are only used for a starting point. Tune the engine for high vacuum and the most timing it can take without detonation under a load.

Just to be sure it's a 292,

side motor mounts, staggered side to side, passenger forward, dr side mid engine
fuel pump mid engine, passenger side
push rod covers, two, about 6" tall, three bolts each
Rocker cover, 7 bolts
63-66, 7/16" flexplate/flywheel bolts
67-90, 1/2' flexpalte/flywheel bolts

Go back and look at the casting number, 3994258 is a 292
