For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2016 Posts: 246 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2016 Posts: 246 | I have been able to free up both synchro`s ...soaked real good with Rust buster type stuff and then tightened down in the soft jaw vice then used the main shaft and the universal joint flange and with a flange tool was able turn them to free them loose. i removed the snap ring to see if the synchro`s were scored or if the brass liner was damaged in any way. All looked good...about an hour later the synchro froze up again just sitting on my bench.... Maybe there is some chemical on the bronze lining in the assembly drum causing it to bind similar to what dissimilar metals do. I will clean up the bronze lining with acetone tomorrow and report back. Any input is appreciated. How much play or rocking should there be in the synchro`s in the assembly ????
