Hmmm. What you guys call a "parking" brake, I have always called an "emergency" brake. The emergency brake is used to stop you if the hydraulic brakes fail and a line lock gadget would be useless in that event.
Yes, you could use that original parking brake in an emergency, but GM called it a parking brake (in 1954 - the original poster's year).
