If your truck came with a V-8 and has the stock short pump and the V-8 core support there isn't much room for both as you described.
However, if you converted over from a 6 cyl to a V-8, there are all sorts of stock components available and lot's of room with the radiator in the 6 cyl position.
I used all of the components from a 74 Malibu (actually same as trucks of the same era) which included the balancer, lower pulley, upper pulley, alternator brackets (right side, upper), PS pump & brackets, and long water pump. The PS pump mounts to the WP. This was an AC car but I didn't use the AC components. I believe they used this configuration for many years on AC & non AC vehicles.
