Before I had money to buy the real deal I used a pair of pliers and then a phillips head screw driver to put the springs back on.
(most people who have them don't know how to use them. The long tool is handy putting the horizontal springs on the old huck brake system...if you know how to use the tool.
...buy good ones as Jerry pointed out and save yourself some cuss words.
