Sorry about the length of time getting back to this, my neighbor has been on the go quite a bit the last few weeks, plus I've had a few things going on, too. We kept missing each other. I did get up with him last night, though. He used a rear from a '71 Camaro. Said it was about an inch wider than the stock rear from the '50. He also mentioned that the '53s do have a wider rear, though, and that one from a Chevelle or Malibu will work fine, too.
