To each his/her own. I would go with original appearance with the wood.
If I had known about the porch paint, I would have used it (I used muliple coats of ebony stain and then multiple coats of satine marine spar varnish).
After saying that, I did go with polished stainless bed strips and it compliments the black wood very nicely.
