If you go with a YF (various versions from 1940s to 1970s), you might want to get one from an engine similar in cubic inches to your (unless you are able to modify/change jetting).

As you noted, Carters are more highly regarded than Rochesters. I have always had/used Rochesters - the one I found on my 1948 216 (in 1969) leaked at the top/bottom joint. My 1954 and later Rochesters do not leak.
