It seems to make sense that a wider gap/spark might affect the ignition of the fuel and the flame propagation. I'd want to see the cylinder pressure curves. Deve's fuel consumption tests will be interesting, and an O2 sensor in the exhaust would provide potentially valuable data.
For me, I enjoy NOT changing plugs, points, and condenser...or paying someone to do it...only plugs at around 50k ('97 GMC 4.3). All the platinum plugs, with wide gaps, I've changed out didn't look bad at all. Worth the few extra dollars, I'd say.
