I understand what You are sayin about the oil levels,
Especially the older boxes that have no front seal.
Thats why I ALWAYS Went with the oldtimers rule of thumb (or pinky joint) Filling gearboxes.
Leave It Just below the fill plug and it Don,t Leak on the clutch.
And were talkin HARD Working Tow Trucks and Flatbeds out there chasin wrecks and whatever.

I,ve NEVER had a trans failure due to lack of lube in over 40 Years.
Stupid operators are another story,or is that"steering wheel holder" LOL
