That's the flat rate taken from a Motors Flat Rate Manual from
1954. I worked the parts counters at Chevrolet dealerships in
the late 50's early 60's and the mechanics weren't starving.
Most could beat the book rate on the vast majority of their jobs.
With the truck up on a lift it shouldn't take all that long to
drop the trans, R&R the pressure plate, disk and brg. and
shove the trans back in place.
Of course if you're trying to do it yourself in your garage
with a floor jack it could take you all day. Heck, you might
spend three hours just trying to get the shift lever out if
it's an SM420!
