Pete, I know some guys who do NOT run them and some that do. I've never heard either of them complain.
I think PirateJack.net recommends a 10 lb residual for the rear and a 2lb for the front running the set up you have.

I am running all drum on my panel but I still put a 10lb residual on the line to the rear. Its suppose to help overcome the springs tension as it keeps some pressure there. I have not had any problems in 2 years and I can stop the panel on a dime and give you 9 cent change!
