The ball joint is already pulled back. The cylindric shafts slide sideways, both pieces. These I suppose are the trunnion bearings.
OR,
when you say lateral is this the sideways movement? And this is less desireable? or is lateral looseness just slop along those trunnion shafts.
I probably oughta look up some terminology.
