Looking at those stress cracks on the dash, that truck looks like it has spent most of its life riding up and down concrete steps!
I'd say that simply restoring the brace to original shape and specifications would be sufficient, unless you plan to continue driving it up and down staircases.

This only comes to mind cause I remember my dad giving me the riot act when I did it as a kid... "Don't swing from the wheel!"
