I have never seen a 1/2 ton stud break.
The wear I have seen is at the ball and ball seats.

What are the diameters/dimensions?
"modern" non-adjustable style
original adjustable style

I check mine every year. No need for adjustment after 8,000 (I now have 10,000 and will check them during spring check-up after hibernation).
