I am an amature painter (painted a few vehicles 10 years ago with laquer) trying a DuPont Chroma base coat/clear coat system for the first time on my 50 1/2 ton PU. I messed up. The base coat (green) was not put on uniformly and left light and dark bands on the hood. Unfortunately I did not notice this until I had sprayed three coats of clear coat. To recover I thought I would sand the clear off with 400 wet paper. That clear is tougher than I realized as I have not broken through to the base coat yet after a fair amount of sanding. My question is can I just sand the clear some and then go ahead a spray two coats of base and two coats of clear on top or will I have some sort of failure due to too many layers of paint?

learning the hard way is painful
