Auckland is not far as the crow flys Jerry , about 1000kms . LOL .
I have driven there but was put off by the large population.
If you view google maps , you will see Canterbury is in the middle of the mainland (south island) and we are very happy that the aucklanders all live in auckland
population about 2 million, total population of the south about 800,000.
I really like our quieter country roads.
