I got out of high school in 1962 and every kid that owned a wrench knew about the resistance wire which we considered a stupid idea. But thats over a half a century ago. Not many of us 50's hot rodders left. And it is one of those things that really isn't discussed much. My generation's standard fix was to run a new wire and put in a ballast resistor. That fixed it. But not all vehicles were retrofitted. And those that weren't can really deal someone misery these days.
