If you didnt weld a patch in yet , how about making your replacement part out of a thicker gauge such as 14 or 12 gauge . if you need to do a part with a bend or angle - you may need to have a metal shop do the bending on this thick of part but it would Really stiffen it up ! Just a thought . HTH
