What is the reason or advantage to put a rack and pinion steering on a straight axle vehicle?

That was one of my first thoughts when I saw the straight axle rack kit for sale...WHY? I had always heard they would kill you and everyone nearby...so what would be the reason or advantage in actually doing it when other proven safer steering options are available?
My purpose in this thread was just to discuss in theory and hear what others thought about it.
