My pump is a stock looking mechanical pump also, but it was putting out way too much pressure. I got a pressure gauge and plumbed it into the system, and discovered the high pressure. And I believe these carbs are designed to draw air thru the pcv system and that is part of the reason mine was running rich, I had the pcv inlet plugged.
