Another Great option would be to talk with Don Allen from Gener-Nator. He basically takes YOUR generator and builds an alternator inside. so in the end it looks like your generator but is actually an alternator !! Saw it on Leno's garage one night. I checked out his sight and talked to him about doing this for my 1929 Chevrolet 6v system with a Delco Remy 943-J Generator, here is what I got from him. Yeah it is expensive bu looks cool... I have NOT had this done, as i do NOT have that money sitting around.

The cutout on top is just for looks and acts as a pass thru circuit.

I set the charge rate on the 6 volt systems around 7.5 to 7.7 V.

I can set it for what you like if it's different.

I offer 6, 8 or 12 volt and positive or negative ground.

The 6 is 50 amps, 8 is 55 and 12 is 60 amps.

The cost is $895.00 exchange plus shipping with a 3 year warranty.

About 4 to 5 weeks turn around time and payment is due at time of shipping to you.

I am sending a few photos of your type with this email.

If you like I can provide a new ID tag with your numbers on it for $28.00.

You would use the original wiring and it would hook up to the cutout as before.
From my Understanding you send them your Generator, they gut it out, machine your case, build and insert the alternator components as specified above, or can customize them per your specs, put it all back together and ship it back to you... Also PRICE is more if you do NOT send it a Core.

Looks like an AWESOME device and replacement. Price is a little hi, but considering they are BUILT to ORDER & SPECIFICATIONS Plus warranty !!

Also sent some pictures of some other Delcos they have done:
Delco 943-B 8V Neg Ground
Delco 943-B 6V Neg GRound
Delco 943-B 6V Neg Ground 2

Can also get them Powder Coated or Chromed

Just throwing out another option...
