Whether or not I decided to leave it there and let the machine shop work around it would depend on what sort of arrangement I had with the machine shop and what all they were going to do.

Do they charge a flat rate for an engine teardown, or do they charge by the hour for their work? Some shops do not charge for the teardown if the repair/replacement parts are sourced through them, but I would make sure and know this sort of thing.

I'm commenting here because I have had all these conversations with several machine shops the past two months-- each one was different.
