Unless you have already proved it different, don't give up on the 401 V-6 yet. It could possibly run just fine.
I used to drive a 478 V-6 in a '62 GMC 6500. Real powerhouse and the mileage really wasn't that bad for what it was.
I also had a 305 V-6 in a Pick-up. It would go 70 MPH and I would get 15 1/2 MPG Hi-way after one of my "super-tunes".
Also had a 305 V-6 in a '62 GMC 4000 Flatbed. Mileage was reasonable.
(Can anyone tell I'm pro V-6 ??)
